I *need* a vector graphics program I can afford, instead of Adobe's high priced subscription / rental / pay-us-forever scheme. Simple things like that have frustrated me each time I've tried to use Inkscape. I've never seen any audio-visual feedback that tells me a snap to grid setting is working, nor how to set the grid spacing, and as far as I can tell, that's never worked when I've tried it on Windows or Macintosh, particularly if you Move an object (shape, line, etc.) and want it to snap into place on the grid. I still consider myself an Inkscape newbie. Inkscape will load and run on my Mac, but I can't get a Fill color to Fill a shape and I can't get the Gradient tool to pull up a dialogue box or anything that looks like it would do that. Inkscape does ask for X11, now supplied via XQuartz. My Inkscape package says it's 0.48.2, not 0.48.4.
